We believe that having a service dog should not be financially prohibitive.
By providing our services at reasonable cost, and by being a nonprofit we can concentrate on providing the best possible training rather then on trying to increase profits.
By utilizing a dogs natural desire to please it’s handler we work on tapping into that desire to form specialized task that help the owner in mitigating their disabilities and living an independent life, while maintaining financial freedom from the otherwise prohibitive cost of training a service dog.
What we offer
At Fenrir Service Dogs Limited we offer one on one training with an instructor that is also a service dog handler. This happens in a relaxed environment in order to help the handler and dog concentrate on learning their tasking.
Each training program is based on the needs of the handler and the abilities of the dog. You can follow our program in the yard, at a friends or even at home.
The program moves at the pace of the handler and the dog, with emphasis being placed on the successful progression of team completing the training and being proficient.
Types of TASKING we train
Mobility assistance
Mobility assistance dogs may be taught to brace in place, standing still and not moving, so that the handler can stand up, sit down, or move to a chair. The dogs may also stop at curbs or steps and only move forward when the handler has a chance to prepare themself for the next step.
They can also be taught to not move so that the handler can use the dogs specialized harness in order to prevent a fall. Dogs can also provide stability while walking by providing counter balance.
The dogs may also be taught to retrieve items for the handler that they can not reach themselves. Examples are keys, prosthetics, money, clothing and more.
Medical Repsonse
If a medical episode warrants the dog can be taught to go get help by finding a person, retrieving a phone, providing safety from further injury or getting medications for the owner.
In certain instances a Medical Response Service Dog may also be a Medical Alert Service Dog. This type of training is highly specialized and requires that the dog be able to detect things like seizures, drops in blood sugar, blood pressure, or a dangerous change is heart rate that will require immediate attention, often by taking medication. The dogs are taught to provide a very distinct form of indication to the handler so that they have time to take their medication or seek medical help before things become life threatening.
Mental health
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Traumatic Brain Injury, as well as various other issues can be mitigated by the use of a service dog.
Debilitating anxiety attacks can be lessened by the dog providing an alert prior to the attack becoming extreme, the handler can then use other learned task to help mitigate the attack.
Some dogs can be taught to lead their handler out of an area so that they can begin the process of recovering from the attack.
